Geoffrey Callahan

April 30 – May 17, 2026

SKYPOMP

301 Smithfield Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

The inaugural exhibition for Skypomp displays the colorful abstract world of its founder, Geoffrey Callahan. From April 30th to May 10th, 2026, select works from Callahan’s Procession series will be on display at Skypomp’s Pittsburgh location, downtown at 301 Smithfield. “This is the champagne on the sailboat.” All are invited to the opening reception with refreshments Thursday, April 30th, from 6-9pm.

Callahan’s practice has matured from his early days of splashed paint on pizza boxes, but his youthful enthusiasm remains central. Layers of color weave the foundation of his large-scale paintings, his practice nearing that of a sculptor, creating tiers of color and pattern and line. The bright white cells with thick black charcoal outlines oscillate between subject and impediment, simultaneously creating the connections of thoughts and obscuring the brilliant, colorful tapestry.

With a history of woodworking as a carpenter’s apprentice, Geoffrey Callahan has control over every step of his process. Callahan often alludes to the alignment of the seams of his raw canvases to emphasize his attention to the materials he uses and the compositions he creates, before applying the first stroke of paint. From creating the chassis of the stretcher bars to the final frame, every detail is part of the life of his work.

Despite growing up in Morningside, this is the first major exhibition of Callahan’s work in Pittsburgh. His previous exhibitions include MMClay in San Francisco, Salathe Gallery in Los Angeles, and Pauseu in Seoul.  Please direct all inquiries to ART@SKYPOMP.COM
